"We believe that God's love is life-changing and world-changing."
John 3:16-17 is the simple yet profound vision of Word of Deliverance Church. We believe that God's love is life-changing and world-changing. The message of grace and forgiveness is for "whosoever believeth in Him" and receiving it is as simple as believing. "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world." Therefore, our message is not one of condemnation but of hope, peace and love. We believe the gospel is multi-generational and is effective from the youngest to the oldest. We strive to meet the needs of every age and generation, encouraging them to find their place in the body of Christ and to walk in abundant life.
Our desire is that Word of Deliverance will be a place where everyone can passionately pursue God's purpose in their lives.
Our goal is to train ministry and empower the next generation.
"A city set on the hill cannot be hid." - Matthew 5:14
Pastor Lisa Unger ~ Passionate Teacher, Loving Mom, and Wife
"I serve God because I love Him, not because I am afraid of Him."
Lisa and Dan were born and raised in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. They have two daughters Elisabeth & Morgan.
Both Dan and Lisa started as youth pastors at Word of Deliverance where they continue to be the directors of Word of Deliverance Youth Camp.
In January of 2004 Lisa became the associate pastor of WOD, and later in 2007 She became the senior pastor after the retirement of her parents (and WOD Church founders) Jack and Shirley Hiles.
Though Pastor Lisa stands front and center at WOD Church, her husband Dan operates behind the scenes working the church's sound system and maintaining the building. They have been married for more than 42 years and are partners in life and ministry.
Lisa and Dan's ministry is one of love and inclusion. They welcome people from all walks of life and encourage them to participate and contribute to WOD Church.
Founders Pastors Jack & Shirley Hiles ~ Vision With A Future
"Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it"
Jack & Shirley Hiles founded Word of Deliverance (WOD) in October of 1977, the church was to be open for those who had become outcast and was to be used to train and encourage men and women in the ministry of the word of God.
The original church was built on the family bean patch. Little did this man and woman of God know just how much they would change the world. Together Jack and Shirley participated in prison and radio ministries with their family, later founding a youth camp and a food pantry.
It has been their joy to see many ministers of the gospel launched from WOD, including many of their own family. Their daughter, Lisa Unger was ordained after Pastors Jack & Shirley retired in 2007.
Ministers and Worshippers from all over the world have visited the church on the hill in Berkeley Springs to hear the word of God.
